904L is the austenitic stainless steel material. The addition of molybdenum is providing it excellent resistance to the localized attacks such as crevice corrosion and pitting by chlorides. Also, it is having very good resistance ability against reducing acids and the addition of copper is giving it general corrosion resistance to various concentrations of the sulphuric acid. The high alloying of the material is giving it chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance but still, the material is susceptible. The low carbon content is making it sensitization resistance by welding and it thus prevents IGC.
